NDA examination is conducted by UPSC in two stages. Students have to crack Written exam of 900 marks consisting of 2 papers . The students who qualify the written examination has to clear 5 days SSB of 900 marks. If they clear SSB too they are recommended for Medicals. If they clear the Medicals they are appointed as per vacancies. NDA examination is conducted 2 times in a year normally in April and September.

12th appearing as well as 12th pass candidates in the age group of sixteen and half to nineteen and half are eligible for NDA examination. Girls are not allowed till date in NDA. There is no reservation in NDA. NDA is considered the most prestigious Entrance Exam for joining Indian Army, Indian Airforce or Indian Navy. Arts and Commerce undergraduates are allowed only in Indian Army. To join Indian Navy or Indian Airforce one must have passed 12 th or appearing from Physics, Chemistry and Maths.

NDA written exam has two papers of 2 ½ hrs each. All questions are objective type. First paper of Maths and Second General Ability.

Mathematics : Covers the syllabus of XI and XII class. There are more questions from Class XI syllabus. Total 120 questions carrying 300 marks.
